Prepare to have all of your oil painting fears quelled, your questions answered and wonderings explored in this 2 day oil painting lecture and demonstration. Day 1 of the workshop covers the history of oil painting practices, techniques, materials, and movements. Unpacking several centuries of findings, experiments, and innovations, we look at best practices in relation to safety, substrates, layering fat over lean, mediums, painting storage, techniques, pigment behavior and history, and more. Day 2 is a still life painting demonstration covering aids in seeing, mixing pigments, color context, painting approaches and applications, substrate preparation, and material handling.

Attendees should expect to take notes, ask questions and participate in some conversation. Otherwise, relax and enjoy watching the process! No painting by attendees will happen for this workshop so no materials beyond a notebook and writing utensil are required.

Lecture occurs Friday, December 11th from 6-9pm, and demonstration occurs Saturday, December 12th from 10-1pm at Binder Art Projects in Lancaster, PA. This workshop combo is in-person. Location address and instructions will be provided via email after registration.
